Prayers are important, and your own prayers are important as well. God wants to hear from you, and He can not do that if you are not speaking so He can hear you. We are to pray for each other, and that is one major reason why this website exists, however, you too need to follow up with your own prayers as well. Note the scripture above, it says; Ask and it will be given to you. It's saying for you to ask, for you to seek, and for you to knock. Then is says that if you ask, then you will receive, you will find, and the door will be opened to you. Key in on the importance of the word YOU within that scripture. Note this portion of scripture from James 4:2; …You do not get things because you do not ask for them!
In our daily lives we speak out loud all day long, we communicate, we converse, and we ask questions of others. We know that in order to get answers to our questions, that we must first ask the questions. Regardless of the importance of our questions, if we never ask them, they will not be answered, because they are never heard. We are all so quick to pick up the telephone or search the web for answers to our questions, but often times we do not seek the important insights we really need. James 1:5 says; If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. Again, it's important to God that He hears from you, because you matter to Him.
There are many people that do not feel comfortable praying, perhaps they feel embarrassed, or perhaps they do not feel worthy of receiving what they ask for, so they do not ask, or they ask others to pray for them. Some people may have apprehension because they feel guilty or shameful about something, that is a part of prayer as well. See this verse in Matthew 6:12; and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us. When we pray it is important that we ask for forgiveness, thus when we repent and ask to be forgiven, we need not feel guilty or shameful about anything. See Romans 3:23; for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God. We are all imperfect, God already knows that, so no need in trying to be what you are not, just humble yourself and be honest. Besides, it says in Luke 15:10 that there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
Do you remember the first time you tried to ride a bike? I bet you fell off right? But, you got up and kept on trying until you obtained your balance and confidence. Look at what the bible says in Hebrews 4:16; Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. God cares about you, your confidence should be increased simply by knowing that you will find mercy, grace, and help by seeking God in prayers. Here is another confidence builder from 1 John 5:14-15; This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him. Now look at what Jesus says in John 14:13-14; And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. I do not know if you could ever have more of an open invitation than that, you simply need to pray to God in the name of Jesus.
All too often we wait until we are feeling overcome with burdens before we think it's important enough to seek God in our prayers. It's important to pray daily, it is better than waiting until the darkness overcomes you. Then Jonah prayed unto Jehovah his God out of the fish's belly. (Jonah 2:1). Don't wait until you are swallowed up by your problems before you realize the importance of your prayers. However it is also important to seek God during your difficulties; In his distress he sought the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. (2 Chronicles 33:12). Do you find yourself worried about things? Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6).
Perhaps you want to know how to start your prayers, it is important to begin by Glorifying God. Jesus supplies us all a prime example in Matthew 6:9-13, you are invited to read it. In Matthew 6:6-8 it says; But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Always be grateful to God; Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Make an important note to yourself, in all circumstances we are to give thanks, when we give thanks in the midst of difficulties, we break the power that the circumstance has over us.
It is important that you understand that God is not a genie, you don't just rub the bottle and get what you want. No good father would give his children everything they asked for, that would only spoil them. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. (James 4:3). It is important that your prayers are in alignment with Gods will for your life, and for the others that you are praying for as well. There is also a level of importance to pray your prayers out loud. Your prayers can be especially important in the bringing of comfort to others, but can also be significantly important between husbands and wives. Did you know that 1 in 10,000 couples who pray together end up in divorce? Spouses, perhaps this will help you understand the importance of your prayers!
There are a few other really important reasons for speaking your prayers out loud. One is when you speak your prayers out loud you are far less likely to become side tracked. When you keep quiet, your prayers are not focused as well in your mind as they are when you speak them. Thus you may find yourself praying one moment and then thinking about something else the next moment, you need to finish your prayers. Another importance is that you want your prayers to be heard by any angels that may be encamped around you. As it says in Psalm 104:4; He makes winds his messengers! Speak up, as a child of the God most high, He wants to hear from you!
Evening and morning, and at noon, I will pray and cry aloud; and He shall hear my voice. Psalm 55:17
